What is Numerology, its concept, applications and history?

Numerology is a belief in the mystical significance of numbers and their influence on human life and natural events. It is based on the idea that the universe is a system and once broken down, we are left with the basic elements, which are numbers. These numbers are considered to have distinct vibrations and meanings, which can be used to gain insight into various aspects of life, including personality, behaviour, destiny, and life events.

Concept, History, and Application, of Numerology

History and concept- Numerology has ancient roots, tracing back thousands of years. It is believed to have been practised in various forms in ancient civilizations, including Babylonia, Egypt, China, Indian numerology, etc. According to all civilizations, numerology is a traditional system of numerology that assigns numerical values to letters to interpret and predict various aspects of life.

  • Pythagorean Numerology- The Greek philosopher Pythagoras (around 570 – 495 BC) is the father of modern numerology. He believed that numbers are the basic principles of the universe. They created a system where each letter was given a number, allowing them to find hidden meanings and insights in words and names.

  • Middle Ages- During the Middle Ages, numerology gained popularity, often intertwined with astrology, tarot alchemy, and other mystical sciences. Figures such as Agrippa and John Dee explored numerology within the context of broader esoteric and occult traditions.

  • Modern Numerology- The resurgence of numerology in the modern era surfaced during the early 20th century, particularly through the works of L. Dow Balliett and her student, Dr. Juno Jordan. They expanded on Pythagorean ideas and helped popularize numerology as a tool for personal and spiritual growth. In today‘s time, in modern numerology, some numerologists use all the types of numerology and predict many other things like using numerology in mobile numbers, bank accounts, car numbers, etc.

  • Chaldean Numerology-Chaldean numerology is an ancient system of numerology discovered by Chaldeans, who were a group of people in Mesopotamia, known for their contributions to astronomy, astrology, and mathematics. This system is different from the more widely known Pythagorean numerology in its methods of calculation and the meanings assigned to numbers.

Numerology revolves around the numbers from 1 to 9 (and the master numbers 11, 22, and 33) have specific vibrations and meanings. How and which method to use while doing numerology is everyone’s personal choice. But I believe that if you want to see how numerology works then use all numerology methods and techniques to get solid and useful information. Numerology is based on a core number or concept and applications. The core concepts include:

  • Life Path Number: Calculated from your birth date, it represents your life's purpose and the path you are meant to follow.

  • Expression/Destiny Number: Derived from your full birth name, it reveals your talents, abilities, and potential.

  • Soul Urge/Heart’s Desire Number: Based on the vowels in your full name, it reflects your inner self and true desires.

  • Personality Number: Calculated from the consonants in your name, it indicates how others perceive you.

  • Birthday Number: Represents specific talents and characteristics associated with the day of birth.

Numerology, its concept and its applications can help an individual in the following in:

  • Self-Discovery: Helps individuals understand their strengths, weaknesses, and life purpose.

  • Relationships: Can provide insights into compatibility between individuals.

  • Career Guidance: Assists in identifying suitable career paths based on personal attributes.

  • Forecasting: Some numerologists use numbers to predict future trends and events.

Conclusion

While numerology is embraced by many as a valuable tool for personal insight, it is often criticized for its lack of scientific basis. Some argue that the numerology interpretations are too general and can be applied to anyone. Despite this, numerology continues to be popular in various cultures around the world, often used alongside other spiritual and self-help practices.

In summary, numerology is an ancient practice that assigns significance to numbers, offering insights into various aspects of life and if blended with Astrology and tarot can give more valuable information.
